I’m on wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone_jammer ), and it’s telling me at the way bottom…
- United States: illegal to operate, manufacture, import, or offer for sale, including advertising (Communications Act of 1934), with fines of up to ,000 and imprisonment of up to one year.
It doesn’t say anything about owning it, because for the UK, it says:
- United Kingdom: illegal to use, but >legal to own.<
So can I have one, and not operate it, but just own it? Cause it doesn’t say anything about just owning one being legal…
Please respond, as I am very curious, lol

don’t know – isn’t there something you could spend your money on that would be fun – like a movie or some pop corn?
I suppose it’s legal (but keep in mind that wikipedis can be edited by ANYONE making it a fairly invalid source of information. So I suggest that you double check your facts.) Though I don’t know why you would want to own one if you couldn’t operate it….
According to the following links, it is illegal to sell and/or own a jammer in the U.S.
"Anyone caught manufacturing, selling, owning, or using a jammer in the U.S. is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense. "

"It is illegal to sell cell phone jammers in the United States."

"JAMMERS ARE FOR SALE ONLY TO UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AGENCIES & EXPORT CUSTOMERS. EXPORTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE STATE DEPARTMENT APPROVAL (EXPORT LICENSE) – NO EXCEPTIONS.

The wiki reference does not give the complete facts. It is illegal to OWN one in the USA. That is because they are transmitters and those are controlled by federal law. If you get caught with it you will get a year in jail.
Now what is interesting is cell phone jammer DETECTORS are legal as they are not transmitters but radio receivers. If you use a jammer and someone around you has a detector you are busted. If you had a jammer and use it regularly in a particular location someone with a cell phone will complain to their service provider. The service provider can install a simple detector that will monitor the area and if it picks up the fact that someone is using a jammer, they will take further steps to catch you.
Lastly, if you jam a call to a doctor and as a result of your actions someone is hurt or dies, you will be held responsible for the death. (In the USA if you commit a crime and someone is hurt or dies as a result of your crime, you get charged for it.) So the year in jail could turn into a life term.
The actual law was written in 1934 and does not state "cell phone jammers" as outlined here, but rather interference with radio signals, as radio signals are considered private property leased (by cell phone companies). Recently there have been some changes in the U.S. due to allowing cell phone jammer use in prisons.
